3CCT, 4CCT and Dim to Warm: How to Choose

Compare fixed colour-temperature selection with warm dimming, then choose the correct version for your wall-light or recessed-spot range.

Start with the lighting behaviour you need

When comparing a lighting range, check what each switch position actually does. A choice of fixed white-light settings, brightness dimming and a Dim to Warm mode solve different requirements. The number in a product name is only a starting point; the specification should list the settings in kelvin and explain the control method.

FunctionWhat the user selectsWhat to check before ordering
Single CCT with dimmingOne specified white-light colour; brightness can be adjusted.Ordered CCT, driver and dimmer compatibility.
3CCT switchableThree fixed white-light settings on one product.Exact temperatures and switch location.
4CCT / four selectable modesFour settings, which may be four fixed CCTs or a combination including a dynamic mode. The complete mode list, rather than the count alone.
Dim to Warm (DTW)White light becomes warmer as brightness is reduced.DTW range and supported dimming system.

3CCT: choose a fixed white-light setting

HSKY 3CCT versions commonly offer 2700K, 3000K and 4000K. The WOD001 3CCT wall light and TDL0602 3CCT recessed spotlight use this combination. This gives a buyer one product version that can be configured for different room schemes.

Choose the setting using a sample in the intended space. Compare the light against the wall finish, furnishings and any existing lighting. Agree the selected CCT across the project so adjacent fittings do not unintentionally show different white-light colours. Follow the product instructions when accessing selectors.

How HSKY describes four-mode products

WOD001-2W4C: 2200K, 2700K and 4000K fixed settings, plus a Dim to Warm mode. It also has 4W / 6W power selection. Here, the four-mode description includes three fixed temperatures and DTW.

The WOD001 dual wattage and 4CCT wall light therefore has a different setting list from HSKY 3CCT + DTW recessed spots, whose fixed settings are 2700K, 3000K and 4000K, with a 2200–3000K DTW mode. Compare the actual mode list before treating two four-position products as equivalent.

Dim to Warm: brightness and atmosphere change together

DTW is useful when the desired evening scene should look warmer at a lower brightness. The WOD001 DTW wall light specifies a 2000–3000K range. The TDL1202 3CCT + DTW spotlight specifies 2200–3000K for its DTW mode. These are separate product specifications; do not assume every DTW product uses the same endpoints.

A switchable CCT product is also different from a tunable-white system with independent colour control. If a customer needs app control, RGBW colour or a particular control protocol, select the corresponding smart version and confirm its functions separately.

What to send with a sample request

  1. Model and the exact version: 3CCT, DTW or 3CCT + DTW.
  2. Fixed CCT list or DTW range, and preferred power setting.
  3. Dimmer model and expected number of fittings on the circuit.
  4. Finish, installation conditions, quantity and packaging requirements.

Common selection questions

Does 3CCT automatically mean the light is dimmable?

Check the dimming specification separately. CCT selection describes the white-light settings; the driver and dimmer determine brightness control.

Does four-mode mean four fixed colour temperatures?

Check the listed settings. WOD001-2W4C combines three fixed CCTs with a DTW mode; the HSKY specification identifies each setting.

Which version should I include in an OEM range?

Start with the lighting behaviour your customers need. Compare a fixed-CCT sample and a DTW sample in the same space, then agree the ordered function, labels and driver configuration.
